Money and God’s Unshakable Kingdom

When it comes to money, do you feel anxious and easily shaken?

Last week my wife and I were trying to finish up our taxes, and all of a sudden, everything started going wrong. The program crashed. I couldn’t access the software I needed. Doing our taxes is not my favorite pastime to begin with, and that day it was much harder than it actually needed to be.

But as I sat there in my office, I began to remember something. My wife and I were dealing with one detail and it was causing us trouble. But we have a God in heaven who watches everything. Nothing surprises Him, and nothing is out of His expectation. Many things are outside of His will and influence, but He is with us and He is watching.

Maybe this season is difficult for you. Or perhaps you’re looking at your budget, and it doesn’t look good. Have you been wondering, “Is this working? Am I getting ahead? God, are You in heaven? Can You help me?”

All of us need to learn how to look at our circumstances in their proper context.

The Unshakable Kingdom

If our foundation is built on economics, an income stream, our ability to feel healthy, our finances, a budget, anything of this world—we will be shaken. But our Father in heaven is never shaken:

Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire. (Heb. 12:28–29)

God knows what is true about you. He knows your needs like He knows mine, and He has given us a kingdom that cannot be distressed or upended. That is what you and I are building on—a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

If you believe something that is giving you anxiety, that thought is not built on an unshakable kingdom. At the point where you feel anxious or believe a lie, surrender it to God, for He is a consuming fire and that thing will get smoked in His presence.

A Prayer for Anxious Times

Pray this prayer whenever you feel shaken:

Father God, I repent for having a foot in the world and a foot on Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, I lift that foot out of the world right now and place both feet on the kingdom that is unshakable.

All these anxieties and lies have been mounting up within me. I repent for having them at all, but now they are here, and I acknowledge their presence and offer them to you. I hold out to You every worry I’ve been dealing with and ask You to burn it up. I offer to You every lie I’ve believed about You and the world, and I let it go into smoke.

And now I retreat into Your arms. Your arms are capable, and you and I are going to win, because You are this unshakable kingdom.

Father in heaven, thank You for my hands, which are now emptied of fears, anxieties, and the “shakability” offered by the world. I ask that You would fill my hands right now with truth from Your Word. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
